Are Foundational Basics Lost - Work Life Balance

While speaking with a client whom carries the title of being an entrepreneur woman, mother, and wife of a local Korean government official, I was asked, what do you suggest I tell my husband about our government task force attempt of encouraging marriage, child bearing, and the growth of our people. They are facing critical times where young women are embracing their single lives, careers, and social statuses.

This is common behavior in our day. It can be problematic when there is a constant need to have our focus more of ourselves than creating extensions of ourselves for generations to come. There is a lot of attention on not only career status but social status as well. So, how do we revert back to the days where creating generations of ourselves was the obvious? Well, let’s discuss. Is it important, considering the economical restraints? Is it imperative to multiple at a multitude rate? How was it that creating generations were simply the obvious? Why are the economical restraints a direct impact? And, how to get around those economical restraints? What would multiplying childbirth do to the conditions that are currently presented? There are many angels to consider here.

"State of marriage in America. In 1949, 78.8% of all households contained married couples. Seventy years later, 48.2% of households had married couples. Both men and women are marrying later in life – which is one reason for the decline in married households. Based on Census data compiled since 1890, the median age of first marriage hit lows in 1956 for both men (just over 22 years old) and women (20). In 2019, those figures were at their peak: nearly 30 for men and 28 for women" - U.S.News, 2020

However, as an Industrial – Organizational interest, I must incorporate solutions from a business standpoint. How are we implementing the need of creating generations, while standing strong in business practices? What are the means of a healthy balance of work-life? How involved should organizations be? Are we considering the need that both aspects (growing generations and growing businesses) goes hand and hand?

Let’s discuss because I do have my perspective on just how to battle these concerns. She was enthusiastic about what I was able to suggest to her. She understood the logic in my response. It is right in front of our faces. We are no longer in a place where moms cannot be the moms we once were. And dads cannot continue to take the full lead as they once were automatically setup to do. Although society changes rapidly, we do not always have to get so far away from the foundational basics.
